Protecting yourself during a heatwave is crucial to avoid heat-related illnesses like dehydration, heat exhaustion, and heatstroke. Here are some effective tips to stay safe:

1. Stay Hydrated:

  • Drink plenty of water throughout the day, even if you’re not thirsty. Aim for at least 2–3 litres daily.
  • Avoid alcohol, caffeine, and sugary drinks as they can dehydrate you.
  • Include hydrating foods like watermelon, cucumber, and citrus fruits in your diet.

2. Dress Appropriately:

  • Wear loose-fitting, light-coloured clothes made of breathable fabrics like cotton or linen.
  • Avoid dark colours as they absorb more heat.
  • Use a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses to protect yourself from the sun.

3. Keep Your Home Cool:

  • Close curtains or blinds during the hottest part of the day to block out the sun.
  • Use fans or air conditioning to maintain a comfortable temperature.
  • At night, open windows if it’s cooler outside but ensure your home is secure.
